I have always wanted to do a style like this. I see things like e-surance commercials or illustrations by Bob Staake and I'm always intrigued. A few days ago I decided to try it myself. Andy had been wanting me to do an illustration of him for a little while so I decided to go with him. I then went on to Riann, myself, and the rest. I did them all free hand and by memory. I made some changes here and there after seeing everyone again at the Clubhouse. Everyone I drew works at the Clubhouse, except Yoshi, but he is there so much it's like he works there. Technically, Riann just quit today so she doesn't really work there either. That sucks.

It's been a while since I've done an illustration not because someone wanted me to, not because I wanted to, not because I needed something to do, but because I needed to do it. It was an interesting day after. Thank you, rain.

Me and Cake

I did this one a number of months ago. I forgot I even made it. I was playing with freehand illustrations. I kinda like it. That cake does look tasty.

Alex on iPhone

So I have a cell phone now. I don't have an iPhone. My brother just got one though. He told me that the phone could put a personalized background on every time I call and that I should make one for when I call. This is what I made. I did it pretty quickly. If you're curious I have a Motorola W385. Nothing impressive, but exactly what I'm looking for.

It had been a while since I had gone all out on an illustration of me. I went for it on this one. My mom made the comment that it looks so much like me. I would hope so. I was planning on doing this cool things with zooming curves in the foreground and background, but I just couldn't get a feel for it. I instead went with a simple parade of purple bars.

I wanted to try working with stubble. I ended up making a number of different hair brushes. I was originally going to add some gradients, but my laziness paid off I think. It looks good without them. I look good.

I did this one for two reasons. I wanted to try my older style without gradients and I wanted to do something with my brothers face. I originally wanted to do something like the bongo ball treatment. Something in the realm of a label on a bottle of miracle cure. But I knew it would require a keen intellect for typeface and anything I would try would have been ripped to shreds by my brother. I try to avoid words if I can. I decided symbols were safe and I do like math. I added B. Arthur because I need it to equal something and she seem pop-culture and randomly perfect to make it funny. I may have subconsciously pick her for the first letter basis.

Zombies: The Undead Unbread

I was in a zombie mood when I made this. I later found a site that collected Zombie drawings and illustrations. Zombiedollars. I originally had a different looking title and the subtitle, but I changed it when I made the next illustration. My brother made the new Zombie title.

Blood Stain

This is the blood stain idea that I wanted to include with the last one. It still does well as a stand alone. I know the two different san-serif typefaces kills my brother, but I think it works in this piece.

Bang

I had this as an idea in my head. The woman in the picture is named Kiki. Her picture was found on Google. I wanted to have me in a blood spatter, but the perspectives didn't work. I also originally had the word "BANG!" in this, but my brother suggested that it was over doing it. The bang was implied and saying it took so much more away.

Hairy Me

I saw what my hair looked like when I woke up and I had to make this. I spent a lot more time on the hair than anything else. I did ask around about what to do in the background. I wanted it blue, with depth, but simple. That's it.

Overlooking

I wanted to make something to counteract the anger from the last one. This is a few weeks later, of course. I originally planned to be just falling and not holding on to anything. I debated over a number of factors in this picture. What is the rope attached to? What is below me? What is going on? I decided to leave it up to the viewer. I think it's quite peaceful. I miss those pajama pants.

Hmmmm? I wonder if I might have been a tad pissed when I made this? Well I was. And I'm pretty sure that is exactly how I felt. It's rare that an idea I have turns out exactly the way I pictured it.

Better Avatar

I wanted to get people away from thinking I was so depressed. So I made a new one that is pretty much the same in over all concept, but I'm smiling and have my eyes open. And yes, that is a soul patch.

Resting Head

I needed a new avatar and so I made this. I wasn't going for the depressing look, but that's what most people took from it. I just often find myself doing that in front of the computer. I think I look at peace or at the very least just sleepy. I had trouble with the bottom lip. Lips on women are less fickle.

Infectious Susceptible

I was screwing around as usual. I tried for a propaganda style. I was going to have hands reaching out from my head, but after a few trial runs, I didn't like it and it was too much work. I had this hanging in my bathroom for a while. It always gave Riann the impression that she was going to get some disease by using the toilet.

Cartoon Me

I was working on making a somewhat realistic,but not too realistic cartoon version of myself. I even dressed myself in my cartoon clothes (I wear that outfit a lot). I think I used the head as avatar for a while. And of course I have the signature mole added.

Wow, this sucks. It was one my first attempts at making my face "all cartoony". I added the words and stuff a little later when I was bored. It just seemed to fit after I added the mustache. I also should have added a "Dr" or maybe a "PhD"
